Terms and conditions of use

These terms apply to your use of subjectaccessrequests.org.uk. Please read them before you use the site. By using it, you accept them.

Last updated 2 October 2026

1. Who we are

subjectaccessrequests.org.uk ("the site") is operated by WeAreStrata Limited, trading as Strata AI ("we", "us", "our"). We are a company registered in England and Wales under company number 16974757. Our registered office is 4 Usk Vale Court, Pontypool, NP4 8AS.

Requests by Strata AI is a product of WeAreStrata Limited. More about us is at wearestrata.ai.

2. What these terms cover

These terms govern your access to and use of the site, including its guidance and the SAR deadline calculator. They do not govern the supply of Requests by Strata AI or any other Strata AI service, which is provided only under a separate written agreement.

If you use the site on behalf of an organisation, you confirm you have authority to accept these terms on its behalf.

3. Using the site

The site is free to use and is intended for organisations and individuals in the United Kingdom. We may change, suspend or withdraw any part of it without notice, and we do not guarantee it will always be available or free of errors.

You must not:

  • use the site in any way that breaks the law or is fraudulent
  • try to gain unauthorised access to the site, the server it is stored on or any connected system
  • attack the site through a denial-of-service attack or deliberately introduce malicious code
  • copy, reproduce or resell substantial parts of the site except as these terms allow

Search engines and AI systems are welcome to index, read and cite the site's public pages, as set out in our robots.txt and llms.txt.

4. The guidance is not legal advice

The guidance on the site is general information about UK data protection law, written to help organisations understand subject access requests. It is not legal advice, and you should not rely on it as such. The law and regulatory guidance change, and every request turns on its facts.

We make reasonable efforts to keep the content accurate and up to date, but we make no representation or warranty, express or implied, that it is accurate, complete or current. Take advice from a qualified legal professional before acting on a specific request.

5. The deadline calculator

The SAR deadline calculator gives an indicative date based on the method the Information Commissioner's Office publishes and the England and Wales bank holidays it holds. It runs entirely in your browser. Dates you enter are not sent to us or stored by us.

You are responsible for checking any deadline against the facts of your case and the current law. We are not liable for any loss arising from reliance on the calculator's result.

6. Intellectual property

We, or our licensors, own all intellectual property rights in the site and its content, including text, design, graphics and software. Strata AI and Requests by Strata AI are our trading and product names. The Cyber Essentials Plus logo is used under the terms of the scheme and remains the property of its owner.

You may view, print and share pages of the site for your own information or your organisation's internal use, and quote short extracts with a link back to the page. You must not use any part of the content for commercial purposes, or remove our copyright notice, without our written permission.

The site links to other websites, such as the Information Commissioner's Office and gov.uk, for your information. We have no control over those sites and are not responsible for their content or for any loss that may arise from your use of them.

You may link to our home page or any public page, provided you do so fairly and lawfully and do not suggest any association with, approval of or endorsement by us where none exists.

8. Our liability

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for any other liability that cannot be excluded or limited under the law of England and Wales.

Subject to that, and to the extent permitted by law:

  • we exclude all conditions, warranties, representations and other terms that may apply to the site or its content, whether express or implied
  • we will not be liable to any user for any loss or damage, whether in contract, tort (including negligence), breach of statutory duty or otherwise, arising under or in connection with use of, or inability to use, the site, or use of or reliance on any content displayed on it
  • if you are a business user, we will not be liable for loss of profits, sales, business or revenue, business interruption, loss of anticipated savings, loss of business opportunity, goodwill or reputation, or any indirect or consequential loss or damage

If you are a consumer, we only provide the site for domestic and private use, and nothing in these terms affects your statutory rights.

9. Viruses and security

We take reasonable steps to keep the site secure, but we do not guarantee that it will be free from bugs or viruses. You are responsible for configuring your own technology to access the site and should use your own virus protection software.

If you believe you have found a security vulnerability in the site, please tell us using the contact details below.

10. Privacy and cookies

Our privacy notice explains how we use personal data when you visit the site. Our cookie policy explains the cookies we use and how to control them.

11. Changes to these terms

We may revise these terms at any time by updating this page. The date at the top shows when they last changed. Please check this page from time to time, as the version in force when you use the site applies.

12. Governing law and jurisdiction

These terms, and any dispute or claim arising from them or their subject matter, are governed by the law of England and Wales. The courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction, except that if you are a consumer living in Scotland or Northern Ireland you may also bring proceedings in your local courts.

If any part of these terms is found to be unenforceable, the rest remains in effect. If we do not enforce any right straight away, we can still enforce it later.

13. Contact

To contact us about these terms, write to WeAreStrata Limited, 4 Usk Vale Court, Pontypool, NP4 8AS, or use the contact details at wearestrata.ai.
